Balance in Autumn

Hello and welcome to Autumn!

Last week we saw the arrival of the Autumn Equinox, which is the time within the seasons of equal day light and darkness in night. From here on, it's going to continue to get darker until the peak at Winter Solstice.

Changes in the season are one of the many reasons we notice signs from our body of imbalance. Those typical in Autumn are:

  • digestive disorders, feeling ungrounded, restless and anxious, poor sleep, dry cracked skin, popping and painful joints and poor circulation.

If you are noticing any of these signs from your body, its time to pivot and change course in your self care and diet to enable your balance and avoid dis-ease.

In order to avoid imbalance in Autumn, here are four key principles to observe in making tweaks to remain in balance.

1.) Deep Tissue Hydration

Internal and external application of healthy oils such as:

  • Ghee

  • Black sesame

  • Coconut oil

  • Oily foods (such as fish, seeds, nuts and bone broth)

NB - water is not enough to hydrate our deep tissues and organs.

2.) Grounding

Calm your nervous system after the stimulation of summer with:

  • Morning and evening routines

  • Bare feet in the grass every day

  • Avoid over-stimulating styles of yoga and other movement practices

  • Warm oil self massage

  • Make time for meditation

3.) Slow Down

Reduce the pressure of trying to do more:

  • Make time for daily self care

  • Avoid multi-tasking

  • Turn off devices when eating and chew each mouthful slowly

  • Learn to say no

  • Walk instead of run

  • Make time for meditation

4.) Nourishment

Heal your gut and nourish your body with:

  • Freshly cooked seasonal foods local to you (NOT raw)

  • Home cooking for the win

  • Warming spices (eg. cumin, ginger and mustard seeds)

  • Warm foods and drinks

  • Braising and stews (not salads and smoothies!)

I hope this is helpful on your journey in self healing and incredible abundance!
