Winter Provokes Kapha Dosha
As nature changes, so should we. Ayurveda's practices of adapting to the season (referred Ritucharya) aim to encourage balance naturally within body, mind and spirit to avoid disease.
Winter: It’s completely natural to feel less energy, increased hunger and be introspective in order to self-nourish.
Spring: is a warm welcome! A time of re-emergence and slow expansion from the Winter den (which has ideally been nourishing for the belly and soul).
If we do not transition actively into Spring, the energies of Winter can manifest as the following signs of imbalance.
weight gain; feeling sluggish; poor circulation; melancholy; change resistance; heaviness
Ayurveda characterises these manifestations as a result of Kapha Dosha imbalance.
SO, to transition from Winter to Spring, Ayurveda recommends pacifying Kapha. Check out the Ayurvedic tips for transitioning to pacify Kapha here. FACT SHEET: PACIFY KAPHA
Autumn Provokes Vata Dosha
Our body, mind and spirit are influenced by nature and the seasons (among other things).
In order to maintain balance and harmony (and so avoid disease), Ayurveda recommends we change our lifestyle and habits seasonally in order to attune to the natural rhythms around us.
Autumn provokes the Vata Dosha, which is dominated by the elements of Space and Air. In order to avoid elemental imbalance, we need to encourage the less dominant elements: water; earth and fire.
